What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?
Currently I’m into 40k however I do have the Necromunda box set under my bench that I’m really looking forward to get into.
Any specific armies?
Custodes are my army right now, but I’m planing to do a full Primaris list of Night Watch. I have always done successor chapters I think you can make them your own.
What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?
I would say Reading as it influences my hobby the most like for instance I’m working my way through the Eisenhorn and Ravenor books right now hence the inquisition theme I’m doing for Purge The Pit.
What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?
I first started in the late 90’s with my first purchase being White dwarf issue 200. Had a small army as pocket money and birthdays only got you so far back then!
I then had a hobby break until about 2014 when I was in the Army I was based in Windsor and just wondered into the local Games Workshop and spent the whole day chatting to the manager who is still a really good mate and still meet up to game after he left the store a long time ago.
Do you have any future plans for your hobby?
Well my biggest plan at the moment is to paint up a thunder hawk for my new chapter the Nights Watch and yes there will be a captain “Jon Snow” I know it’s a bit cringeworthy but well what else should I call him!! Ever since seeing a Thunder hawk In white dwarf as a full size lead model I’ve wanted one I think it’s a secret goal for most space marine players just to be able to put it down in a game brings a smile to most people faces! I’m also looking to do Armies on Parade board next year I have the models I need now after waiting for the right ones to come up on eBay!
What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?
Well I don’t think I have to this date completed a project. Who has!! There is always something to finish off or that I’m not quite happy with. I did do an Armies on parade board in 2014 got to take it to games day but had no idea how it would be shown and mine ended up at knee height in the main display and you would of had to get down on the floor to see what was going on. Lesson learned there for next time!
What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?
Well at the moment it’s Twitter that keeps me going with the hobby Community on there is fantastic so much support from everyone no negativity. I love doing give-aways I have a lot of old books and models that I’m never going to read or make so why now give them to someone who will and every one love a win! There are quite a few people I admire on line
@pandorasbitzbox– he really cares about the online community and try’s to make it a great place for hobbyists with his Discord.
@Grimbases – he has some fantastic ideas with his bases and his content is very funny ref his Apprentice@Demon_hammer has fantastic ideas for chapters and makes some great paint scheme up.
@tankpotzoe – she always put across a well thought out point on her blog again well worth a read. Great painter as well
That’s just to mention a few @AndyoftheAett, @CMValark and many more.
What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?
Well for years there has been a stigma with painting toy soldiers but as I’ve got older the less I care about what people think! I do feel there is to many games systems out there now but that might be because I want them all and don’t have the time for the two I’m trying to play now!
The cost is a big one but I find a lot of stuff on eBay and there are always good deals to be found on Twitter.
Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practice daily’?
Start small don’t buy a big army day one, you’ll get overwhelmed by the whole idea and never paint or get the chance to play with it. Get involved in the local community if there is one where ever you are and if not start one, and don’t be scared to ask for advice there is someone out there that is thinking the same thing you are and it never hurts to ask if people might have a idea how to paint something or where to find it.
What is your fondest hobby memory?
When finecast came our the local GW had a conversion competition and it went in the store window for a long time that was a big moment for me having spent most of my teens wanting to be good enough to put something in the window.
Anything else you would like to tell our readers?
Just enjoy the hobby I’ve made life long friends from it, and if you do fall out of love with it don’t sell your models as I’ve done in the past you will regret it!!
