What games/systems are you most interested in/do you collect?
Warhammer – 40k, Horus Heresy (30k) and thinking about Age of Sigmar
I have Custodes, Necrons, Death Guard and Tyranids in 40k.
Any specific armies?
I have a Blood Angels force for Horus Heresy, but I want to start either Alpha Legion or Emperors Children at some point.
I like Idoneth Deepkin and Hedonites of Slaanesh for Age of Sigmar, though I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to start or not!
What aspect of the hobby are you most interested in?
My favourite thing to do is build, paint and collect.
What compelled you first start or restart the hobby?
I saw the models on my then-boyfriends shelf and wanted to give it a go myself. Two and a half/three years later and here we are.
Do you have any future plans for your hobby?
I’m going to finish these Necrons for the Summer Hull GT in July, then I’m starting a Dark Eldar (Drukhari) army for a ‘Tale of Warlords/Gamers’ type project.
What sort of materials do you use to create your hobby? How long does it take you to complete a project?
I use Citadel, Vallejo Game/Model Colour, Scale 75 and the occasional Army Painter paint. I also swear by Gorilla Glue but I am using GW Plastic Glue more and more now too. For brushes I’ve been using Da Vinci Maestro Series 10 Sable brushes.
I’ve recently got an airbrush which I’ve been experimenting with too!
What inspires you to keep going? Do you admire any other hobbyists?
Seeing the finished project on the table and knowing that I did it. I admire too many hobbyists to list here! I’m always critiquing my work against others. I’m not sure whether that’s to my detriment because there is so much good work out there to compare yourself with!
What do you find most frustrating about the hobby?
Some of the ‘communities’ out there which aren’t particularly friendly or aren’t open minded but you don’t really come across them too much, thankfully.
Do you have any tips for any aspiring hobbyists – beyond the usual ‘practice daily’?
Everybody has a creative side, even if you don’t think you do. The best thing to do, if you’re struggling for ideas is to pick up something different or that you’ve wanted to do for a while, and just go for it. The worst thing that happens is that it doesn’t go to plan, and that’s okay too. It’s a learning curve.
What is your fondest hobby memory?
I have many! I’d probably say, building a Vindicator after being told I couldn’t build it myself someone because it was ‘too complicated’. I’ve built many tanks and models since then!
Anything else you would like to tell our readers?
I don’t come from a creative background, so trust me when I say, just give it a go. You may find it changes your life, it did mine.
I will also be looking at starting commission painting soon, I just need to get my ducks in a row!
